Christmas decorating

It's that time again! Time to decorate for Christmas! Our first step is always the tree. Each of the kids gets a new ornament every year and so we each get our stash of ornaments and take turns placing them on the tree talking about where we got the ornaments. The plan is for them to have at least 18 by the time they leave the house and decorate their own trees. And of course we have the kids pose with the tree every year. This year we even have an new addition, Ms. Alaska! Who needed a little coaxing to hold still. She was in the middle of one of her crack moments and didn't want to sit still at all!

And of course we couldn't do everything so seriously and had to have alittle fun with a picture!!

Then of course we head outside and get to work. This year we were able to go and get a couple fun things for outside. Nothing to exciting but it was still fun to put them up. We found some cute icemen and some pretty trees that could go on our walkway. Of course with the ground frozen solid we had to rearrange some snow for them to have something to stick to but we know how to improvise and made it work! 

We weren't able to do much but managed to light up the front porch with white and blue snowflakes and stars. It was so nice to have the manchild home to help me with this. We always work so well together.

The king of the Christmas Decor!!

 

For most people the experience of decorating the outside of their home requires a ladder and some extension cords. For us, it took 3 layers, plus snow gear and hand warmers. It was a sweltering -15 while we worked and I can't say as there is a sexier couple out there!!

Aurora hunting

So I took the hubs and the kiddos out on another night of aurora hunting. It was -23 degrees where we were by the Chena lakes and flat out it was COLD!! But kids being kids found a pile of snow and we had to drag them into the truck every 15 minutes to try and rewarm their little bodies. The shot to the right is of the moon and thud and giggles. The one below is of thud, giggles and sassy playing. I love my camera and the fact that it looks like it is daylight outside when in fact we could barely see anything except by moonlight.

We never did find the aurora that night but the clear sky was to much for me to resist. I kept seeing an exceptionally bright star which I am pretty sure is a planet just unsure of which one it is.

We were actually out on top of a dam next to the chena river and the whole area was so beautiful and quiet.

Thanksgiving

The holidays are my favorite time of year. Because it has two of my favorite things; family, and food. We are finally a whole family again this year and we had fun getting ready this year; sassy helped me make the stuffing, giggles helped with the relish tray and taste tester, and daddy was the turkey carver specialist and master taste tester. Everything turned out great and now it's time for a nap before we feast on our French silk pies and mincemeat pies!!

New adventure

Well Mr. thud took us on a new adventure, the adventure of broken bones. It seems that swings, snow and snow pants do not make good playmates! He ended up have a couple pieces of bone chunked off the wrist and so they castes him for three weeks. My house and the people in it will never be the same. I have a towel rack that will never quite be the same, I have wood furniture that has been "sanded" and we all have various bruises from it. So when we went to the doc to have it removed the whole household was excited! Thankfully the boy healed well and the cast will stay off!

Ice globes

Our first winter experiment was a success. About halfway through October we colored and used water to fill some balloons and used the ice box we call Alaska to freeze them. Well tonight we peeled the balloons off and loved seeing some of the results. We made the conclusion that the coloring must be heavier than the water because it all collected in the bottom and froze while the rest of the balloon was clear. I don't know if u can see it in the photos but they also froze in air bubbles that make it look like I have a sea urchin frozen in it!! This was very cool to do!!

Hockey

Our newest Alaskan adventure was a success! We were able to go to a local hockey game for the first time and had a blast! Although none of knew the rules and trying to keep up with the puck was a bit of a challenge, lol! We wouldn't mind going again! During one of the breaks they had a younger team out cleaning up after a fan game and unfortunately they didn't work fast enough and ended up on the ice doing pushups, lol!

Fun things to try while dad is away!

Well we had another first this week! We received our first snowfall and so everyone ha to suit up. Did this stop my son from still playing on the swings? NO, and guess what?! Snowpants don't like to hold to swings, so the boy took a tumble and took a small chunk out of his wrist. Which equaled our first cast. Have to say that I was amazed at how quickly it went together. So now the boy has a small club for an arm, lol. It is always interesting around our house :)
